Project description
Third-cycle subject: Fibre and Polymer Science
The Division of Wood Chemistry and Pulp Technology at KTH Fibre and Polymer Technology announces a licentiate position in co-operation with Stora Enso. The aim of this licentiate project is to describe, quantify and propose a measure to decrease the detrimental effects of calcium ions during chemical pulping of wood.
This include the physical and chemical state of the original calcium in wood and the reactions of calcium and lignin during Kraft cooking. When these reactions are known, different ways to facilitate the delignification and improve yield/increase production and decrease the need of cooking chemicals should be evaluated. The work will be performed in close co-operation with persons from the Industry.
We are looking for highly motivated candidates who want to join the research front and develop knowledge and processes that meet tomorrow 's needs in the field of pulping technology.
Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by: Professor Mikael Lindström.

Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student. The total length of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education in four years ' time. An employed doctoral student can, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within their role, e.g. training and administration. A new position as a doctoral student is for a maximum of one year, and then the employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time.
