Job description

In 2019, a new multidisciplinary research initiative on sustainable industry and society called IRIS was launched at the KTH School of Industrial Engineering and Management. IRIS focuses on knowledge creation and spreading awareness for the paradigm shift needed in transforming industrial systems towards a circular economy approach. The goal is to contribute to the transition towards a zero-emission, adaptable industry for a sustainable society characterized by new product and service designs, new materials, new business models, sustainable energy systems, recycling, reuse and remanufacture.

Research efforts within, and across, the following areas are currently included in IRIS:

  1. Industrial transformation through sustainable digitalization.
  2. Integrated mechanics, components and materials design, including additive manufacturing.
  3. Sustainable energy systems, infrastructure and business.
  4. Innovation management, innovation eco-systems and entrepreneurship

The duties of the postdocs include:

  • Conducting innovative research and collaboration within the scope of IRIS.
  • Presentations of research at conferences and meetings, as well as publication of research papers in high-quality journals.
  • Potential involvement in teaching activities, especially in regard to developing new PhD and industrial courses on topics relevant for the IRIS areas.

Qualifications

Requirements

A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline, in a topic that is relevant for the proposed research focus.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal competence and suitability.

Preferred qualifications

As a person, we prefer that you have and can demonstrate:

  • excellent ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English,
  • ability to work independently and collaboration skills,
  • multidisciplinary background and interest,
  • awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality and
  • both scientific skills and educational ability.

About the employment

A position as a postdoctoral fellow is a time-limited qualified appointment focusing mainly on research, intended as a first career step after a dissertation.

The positions are for up to two years, with an initial one-year contract that can be prolonged.
