Project description
Third-cycle subject: Physics, specialization: Optics and photonics.
In photonics, the capability to tailor the wavelength and spectral properties of laser radiation relies on the ability to structure and engineer the properties of nonlinear optical materials. This Doctoral student project aims at engineering novel photonic structures in bulk ferroelectric crystals. This is a branching field between material science and optical physics. Engineering of the linear and nonlinear refractive index in the macro- and nano-scale will be the key technology for realization of novel optical devices and components. The project spans from implementation and characterization of photonic devices to fundamental studies of material properties.
The project will be carried out in the laserphysics group, at the Applied Physics Department at Albanova University Center. (www. laserphysics.kth.se). The group provides an international and dynamic environment with research areas expanding from optical materials and laser processing to nonlinear optics and laser physics.
Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by: Professor Fredrik Laurell.
