Project description
Third-cycle subject: Machine Design
The doctoral student will work with analyzing and designing sustainable urban goods transport systems in a project at Integrated Transport Research Lab (ITRL). ITRL is a cross disciplinary research center at KTH, focusing on sustainable transport systems.
The doctoral student will participate in a larger project that is a collaboration between industry, academia and public sector. The doctoral student will analyze how the new concepts and services for city logistics – e.g. automated vehicles and smart city hubs - contribute to sustainable transport system and society. Questions include e.g. Which are the system effects on a societal level? How are these effects affected by different business models and policies? How should services and policies be designed to achieve sustainability?
The work comprises interviews with stakeholders and development of a simulation model based on System Dynamics principles. The applicant has a master education within systems engineering, system analysis, transport system, logistics or similar. The applicant should also be skilled in both oral and written communication.
Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by: Anna Pernestål and Jonas Mårtensson.

The applicant should be fluent in English, both written and oral, and should have good academic merits. Being fluent in Swedish is a merit. Experiences from the transport sector is a merit.
After the qualification requirements, great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and personal suitability.

Information regarding admission and employment
Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student. The total length of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education in four years ' time. An employed doctoral student can, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within their role, e.g. training and administration. A new position as a doctoral student is for a maximum of one year, and then the employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time.
