Project description

Third-cycle subject: Solid Mechanics.

Solid Mechanics is a classic engineering science discipline, ranging from basic to applied science.  The research in solid mechanics is focused on computational methods, fracture mechanics, contact mechanics, mechanics of materials, paper mechanics and fatigue.

The Unit of Solid Mechanics offers a Ph.D.-position in modelling of the mechanics of sintering. The aim of the project is to develop material models for a mechanical analysis of sintering of hard metal powders. From experimental results existing models will be developed further and included in FEM packages. From an industrial point of view, the main goal is to reduce the number of iterations at production. The project will be performed in cooperation with Sandvik Coromant Västberga AB.

A suitable background for this position would be a Master of Science in Engineering Mechanics with interest in materials science.

Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by: Professor Per-Lennart Larsson.
