KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Engineering Sciences

Job description

The successful candidate will conduct research in geometric combinatorics and its interactions with artificial intelligence together with Katharina Jochemko and other members of the mathematics department at KTH. The goal is to investigate questions arising in AI through the lens of geometry and combinatorics and to contribute to a mathematical foundation of AI. Researchers with experience in fields related to any of the following are encouraged to apply: geometric/algebraic/enumerative combinatorics, artificial intelligence, discrete/convex/tropical/toric geometry, combinatorial optimization, (algebraic) statistics.

The position is a time-limited, full-time, one year position (with the possibility of extension to a second year) starting August 2020 or at an agreed upon date. The position is financed through the Wallenberg Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) and includes travel support. The successful candidate will be part of an active combinatorics group as well as a newly established unit Mathematics of Data and AI at KTH. Furthermore, the successful candidate will participate in the MATH/AI program at WASP, through which they will have a variety of opportunities to interact with other researchers and industry collaborators in AI and ML.

Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) is Sweden’s largest individual research program ever, a major national initiative for strategically motivated basic research, education and faculty recruitment. The program addresses research on artificial intelligence and autonomous systems acting in collaboration with humans, adapting to their environment through sensors, information and knowledge, and forming intelligent systems-of-systems. The vision of WASP is excellent research and competence in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems and software for the benefit of Swedish industry.
