KTH Royal Institute of Technology

Job description

The Division of Transport Planning is now seeking a qualified candidate for a two-year, fixed-term, full-time position as a postdoctoral researcher, starting in the second quarter of 2020. The focus of the position is on methodological development in the analysis of mobility patterns from automatic data sources, including ticket data from public transport. Smartcard data has become one of the most important sources of public transport information and enables continuous analysis of a rich passively collected data source. Systematic analysis of smart card data provides outstanding information on passenger behavior.

The applicant will develop analytics to detect the prevailing demand patterns and identify distinct user profiles from data. The intention is that you will have the opportunity to develop as a researcher, which means project management and independent research in collaboration with senior researchers and research students at the division and contact persons from Stockholm County Council. In addition, teaching and supervision of degree work and doctoral students is included up to 20% of full time.

What we offer

You are offered the opportunity to work with transport research at the forefront of a dynamic international research environment in close collaboration with industry and universities around the world. The selected candidate will be part of a research group working on urban mobility, within the Division of Transport Planning at the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering, School of Architecture and the Built Environment, KTH.

The Division of Transport Planning conducts basic and applied research that advances the positions of state-of-the-art in planning, design, operation and management of transport systems and facilities. Our research is multidisciplinary in nature and is always seen in a multimodal context. We contribute to solving important transport problems in Sweden and internationally through innovative, interdisciplinary research and education. The Urban Mobility Group develops methods based on statistical analysis, network modeling, computer simulation and optimization approaches to meet the challenges of congestion and environmental impact in urban transport systems. The group has strong links with industry players such as Scania, MTR and Keolis as well as local and national transport authorities, and participates in cross-disciplinary collaborations through, for example, the KTH Integrated Transport Research Lab.
