Job description
The aim of this project is to study scheduling of for a hydro power system with multiple owners, considering trading in multiple markets (day-ahead, intraday, real-time, etc) and environmental constraints for the hydro power operation. The planning should be based on forecasted electricity prices and standard hydro power model can be used. The scientific challenge will be to study how multiple owners can efficiently coordinate the operation of their power plants and to model the environmental constraints. Moreover, the developed models can also be used to evaluate investments in the hydro power plants, for example increasing the installed capacity of a power plant in order to be able to provide more flexibility to a power system with large amounts of continuously varying generation such as wind or solar power.
The position is placed within the Division of Electric Power and Energy Systems, but the project will be carried out in cooperation with the Division of Resources, Energy and Infrastructure as well as the Department of Industrial Economics and Management. Moreover, there will be a close cooperation with industry organisations; the work includes carrying out case studies of real small-scale hydro power systems.

The doctoral degree must have been obtained within the last three years from the application deadline (some exceptions for special grounds, for instance sick leave and parental leave). Applicants should have good experience in using optimisation models for planning or simulation of energy systems. It is a merit if the applicant also has experience in any of the following areas: models for planning of power generation, hydro power modelling or electricity market analysis.
The successful applicant should have an outstanding research and publication record. Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills are a requirement. We are looking for a strongly motivated person, who is able to work independently as well as in cooperation with other researchers and industrial partners.
