Project description
Third-cycle subject: Information and Communication Technology
Embedded systems take over an increasing number of vital functions in society. The design process for these systems has to ensure that all design constraints and requirements are met, e.g. the system meets all its timing requirements, the available memory is not exceeded, etc. In larger safety-critical industrial systems, like cars or planes, several applications with individual design constraints share the same platform. It is therefore important that different applications don't affect each other. In addition the runtime mechanisms (for example a Real-Time Operating System) need to guarantee the timelines of the applications. With the advent of multi-and many-core processors a large amount of computational resources is available but challenges such as contention on shared resources remain. In this context, the PhD project will work on topics such as timing analysis, and techniques for predicatable execution on multi- and many-core platforms.
Supervision: Matthias Becker and Ingo Sander.
