Electrical Engineering with Specialization in Reliable Many-core Embedded Systems

Subject description

The subject field comprises techniques and methods for designing reliable many-core embedded systems with the focus on on-chip communication. This includes the modelling, analysis, design, synthesis, and verification of various subsystems within many-core embedded systems. Of special importance is reliability and system adaptation to specific applications such as deep learning.

Duties

Teaching comprises 50% of the employment and includes supervision of degree projects. The teaching of embedded systems and digital electronics design is primarily conducted at the Department of Electrical Engineering, but also at the Department of Computer Science, primarily in the courses for computer architecture, embedded system architecture and hardware for machine learning. The position also includes research in the subject area, including the application for external funding and supervision of doctoral students. In addition, management and administrative tasks within the department and department may be added. The associate professor is expected to be able to teach in Swedish within three years. If needed a plan for language training will be set at the time of hire.

Eligibility

Those qualified for appointment as an associate professor are persons who have:

  1. been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve, and
  2. demonstrated teaching expertise.

Grounds of assessment

The assessment criteria for appointment as an associate professor at KTH shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. In addition, the assessment criteria stated in the KTH appointments procedure, section 1.2., apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

Of highest importance is that the applicant has

  • research expertise in the subject field, shown through publications in leading journals and active participation in conferences within the field. It is of particular merit to be active in reliability and system adaptation to specific applications such as deep machine learning.
  • teaching skills in the subject field, including the ability to develop courses and teach at both the basic or advanced level and at the postgraduate education level.
  • experience in supervising doctoral students.

Of second highest importance that the applicant has

  • ability to apply for and receive research grants for their current research activities.
  • expertise to develop and lead activities and staff. This includes knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.
  • the ability to pursue third-stream activities and also provide information about research and development work.

It is also important that the applicant has

  • administrative expertise and interpersonal skills.
