KTH Royal Institute of Technology

Job description

The research work will focus on reliability aspects of power electronic systems applied to power grids, such as HVDC and STATCOM. More precisely the project aims to investigate methods to continuously estimate the residual useful lifetime and the failure rates of critical components in converters during operation. This will be made using physical models of the components. Inputs to the models can be operational data, obtained on-line, and used to derive the actual stress profile of components. In addition, data measured to indicate signs of component aging and deterioration can be inputs to the models. The tasks may include:

  • Identification of suitable physical lifetime models
  • Experimental adaptation and verification of models
  • Develop algorithms for estimating the remaining lifetime in operation

The project will also investigate how the outputs from the models can be used to optimize maintenance. Furthermore, the possibility to extend, or reduce, the allowed operation region depending on the model outputs should also be investigated.

What we offer

  • International workplace.
  • A leading technical university that creates knowledge and expertise for a sustainable future.
  • Here you get colleagues with high ambitions in an open, curious and dynamic environment.
  • Help to relocate and be settled in Sweden and at KTH
