Project description
Third-cycle subject: Solid Mechanics
The project is in fatigue design of additively manufactured (AM) metal products. In AM, material- and product properties are integrated and depend on the built direction. AM opens for optimization and lighter design, but fatigue has receded its use. The goal is new knowledge on fatigue of the material, interior parts and surfaces. Post treatments will also be studied. The project involves experimental, theory and numerical work. The new material descriptions shall be coupled to the microstructure. The result is implemented for simulation. The goal is also better methods for design and post treatment of AM-products.
The project is part of MMD, Center for Mechanics and Materials Design, a cooperation between Solid Mechanics and Materials Science and Engineering at KTH and with several industrial partners. A suitable background is an MSc with a solid mechanics profile. Documented experimental, theoretical and/or numerical work is required.
Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by: Prof. Mårten Olsson and Asst. Prof. Greta Lindwall.
