Project description
Third-cycle subject: Fibre and Polymer science
This doctoral project aims to develop new, bio-based materials in the borderline between materials chemistry and biomedical technology in transdisciplinary collaboration between researchers from KTH and Karolinska Institute. You will have great opportunities and grow independence in applying cross-disciplinary approaches and techniques translating bio-based polymer materials science to biomedical science and vice versa.
In this doctoral project, you get the opportunity to work with the entire value chain from biomass, via extraction to material design, applications, and recycling strategies - always with green chemistry in focus – in line with our research focus
The project also includes exploring and developing methods for modifying the biomacromolecules to tailor properties for different applications. New functional materials can be tested in a way that directly links function to the needs of basic scientific and clinical research.
The project is conducted within the framework of AIMES - Center for the Advancement of Integrated Medical and Engineering Sciences – at KI and KTH.
Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by:
Professor Ulrica Edlund, Polymer technology, KTH
Professor Agneta Richter-Dahlfors, Neuroscience, Karolinska Institute KI
