The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) is one of five schools at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. The school conducts research, education and cooperation in the fields of electrical engineering, computer science, and information and communication technology. EECS conducts world-leading research, which has contributed to KTH being one of the highest ranked universities globally within the School’s subject areas. The school has a staff of 1000 and 5000 students. The school has four departments (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Intelligent Systems, and Human Centered Technology). As Head of School of KTH’s largest school, both in regards to staff and to budget, you will lead the daily operations and contribute to the development of the school’s and KTH’s research, education and cooperation with surrounding society. The school conducts research on both fundamental and applied level relating to problems and challenges in society. As Head of School you will have the opportunity to work with long-term processes with our popular and in-demand fields in both research and society, and set the agenda for these fields both in Sweden and internationally. You are a part of shaping the technical educational programs of the future in electrical engineering and computer science, shaping the engineers and researchers of tomorrow. KTH is an international organisation with great diversity and over 100 nationalities working on campus.
The assignment involves both operational and strategic work. You will be responsible for the recruitment of new co-workers as well as the school’s educational programs on first-, second- and third- cycle education, work with development- and operations plans, and contribute to KTH on a central level by participating in management-level groups and working interdisciplinary between schools.
The Head of School is responsible for the EECS school’s budget and financial resources of 1,1 billion SEK and is also responsible for the school's operational support. The Head of School has two Deputy Head of School with special areas of responsibility as support. The school's Head of Administration and the Heads of the school's four departments all report directly to the Head of School.
Furthermore, the Head of School works closely with the centralised University Administration (GVS), the school’s management groups and preparatory boards as well as KTH’s other Heads of School that act as a sounding board in matters both big and small. The EECS school’s work is characterised by uniform processes, professionalism, an open discussion climate and an inclusive working environment.
The school cooperates with important strategic partners in the business sector, regions, government agencies and with foreign universities.
Challenges and opportunities in this role comprise the continued development and change of the organisation. This includes, among other things, to complete the change and development of the schools first and second cycle education, as well as working strategically with recruitment of staff and recruitment of students. Furthermore, the Head of School contributes to KTH’s important focus areas such as sustainability, equality, internationalisation, and digitalisation.
You report directly to the President of KTH and you are a part of the President’s Strategic Council and Head of School Council. Two or three trips abroad per year are expected as part of the assignment.
The appointment as Head of School has a duration of four years with a possible extension of another four years. The basis of the appointment will be an employment at KTH. Opportunity for own research up to 20% of working hours. KTH is a government agency with good employment benefits. To be eligible for the appointment as Head of School you need to be a Professor, Associate Professor, or similar. Fluency in Swedish and English is required, as both languages are needed in daily operations. The official spoken language at KTH is Swedish.
