The position is located within the Division for History of Science, Technology and Environment, where we conduct both research and teaching. Our departure points are that technology and science are cultural elements that shape and are shaped by the conditions of life on earth, and that historical perspectives are central for understanding contemporary and future circumstances and transitions. Within the Division the successful applicant will work within the project Greening the Poles: Science, the Environment, and the Creation of the Modern Arctic and Antarctic (GRETPOL). The start of the position is 1st of January 2021 and will continue for 6 months, until 30th of June 2021.
You will first and foremost collect and analyze primary historical materials from the years 1960-1990 on Soviet policies on minerals and the environment in Antarctica (particularly the Convention on Regulation of Antarctic Mineral Resource Activities). The archival research may also expand to cover other national contexts (most likely Germany). You will work with archival material and conduct oral history interviews if necessary. It is possible that up to 20% of the employment time will be spent on departmental service (either teaching or administration).

You will have a high degree of competence in Russian and preferably also German. You are expected to be able to communicate fluently in English and are be able to write academic work in English. Also, it is expected to have experience with historical research methods. A doctoral degree is a prerequisite for the position, but the degree need not necessarily be in history.
As a person, you are easy to work with. You are the initiator and self-employed, where you think it is important with structure and quality in your work.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal competence.
