KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of EECS

The PDC Center for High Performance Computing is the leading Swedish supercomputing center and is hosted by the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at KTH. PDC operates state-of-the-art computational and storage resources for a variety of scientific application domains, including mechanics, computational chemistry, life sciences, climatology, and physics. The flagship system at PDC is one of the largest supercomputers in the Nordic countries: Beskow, a Cray XC-40 system with over 67,000 cores and a power consumption of around 800 kW. Currently PDC is in the process of procuring the successor to Beskow – the new system will become operational during 2021. The PDC computer hall is, in many ways, technology-leading as it caters for extremely high power consumption in a small area with high reliability due to redundancy.  For many years, KTH has also re-used the heat energy from the computers to heat buildings on the KTH main campus.
