The new high performance computing (HPC) system manager will work at the PDC Center for High Performance Computing. PDC is the leading Swedish supercomputing center and is hosted by KTH. It operates state-of-the-art computational and storage resources for a variety of scientific application domains, including mechanics, computational chemistry, life sciences, climatology, and physics. PDC’s current flagship system is a 2.5 PF Cray XC-40 system, Beskow, with over 67,000 cores. This computer will be replaced early in 2021 by a system with a maximum capacity of about 10 PF that will be equipped with a substantial GPU partition.

Job description

PDC is expanding its group of system administrators. The new system manager will take up a leading role in the system administrator team (which consists of about eight people), running PDC’s computational and storage infrastructure. The work includes administration of the HPC and storage infrastructures and services, development of these services based on user needs and technological advances, and close interactions with the PDC application experts, users and suppliers of computing systems and software.

Qualifications

Applicants need to have an academic degree in computer/computing science or in an area that involves using HPC calculations, or a similar competence acquired through considerable practical experience. You need to have extensive experience using, deploying, and administrating large Linux-based systems and services, plus experience running large HPC systems, preferably in an academic/research environment. Excellent knowledge of Linux, standard programming and scripting languages is required. Experience working with HPC environments like MPI, OpenMP, CUDA, Lustre, SLURM etc. is also needed. In addition, knowledge of virtualisation (OpenStack, Docker, Singularity, etc.), big data analysis or machine learning would be useful.

A good command of English is required, however it is not necessary to be able to speak Swedish as PDC is an international environment.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal competence.
