Job description

Successful candidates will conduct research in the area of graphical models, algebraic statistics, and/or causality with Liam Solus and other members of the mathematics department at KTH. Of particular interest are questions related to causal inference, model selection and underlying algebraic, geometric, and combinatorial structure.

The position is a time-limited, full-time, one year position (with the possibility of extension) starting August 2021 or at an agreed upon date (either earlier or later). The successful applicant will be a member of the new Department of Mathematics for Data and AI at KTH, a quickly growing group working in the mathematical foundations of AI and data science. The position includes generous travel support, and it is financed through the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP).

Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) is Sweden’s largest individual research program ever, a major national initiative for strategically motivated basic research, education and faculty recruitment. The program addresses research on artificial intelligence and autonomous systems acting in collaboration with humans, adapting to their environment through sensors, information and knowledge, and forming intelligent systems-of-systems. The vision of WASP is excellent research and competence in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems and software for the benefit of Swedish industry. Read more at https://wasp-sweden.org/. The successful candidate will participate in the MATH/AI program at WASP, through which they will have a variety of opportunities to interact with other researchers and industry collaborators in AI, ML, and statistics.
