KTH, School of Architecture and Built Environment

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Architecture

As a PhD student, you will join the architectural lighting design research project: “A learning-environment testbed to evaluate benefits of lighting”. This project, led by Ute Besenecker, involves collaborators from the architecture firm SWECO and the University of Gävle. The project expands a current school renovation in Middle Sweden into a testbed site to explore the opportunities of lighting design to support learning, creativity and wellbeing.

Lighting plays an important role in learning environments, especially during the dark season in Nordic countries. With the transition to new lighting technologies, there is an opportunity to rethink sustainable solutions. This project aims to develop, test and critically evaluate different lighting and architecture-integrated design options, enabled by LED technology.

As PhD student, you will be part of developing the project’s theoretical framework, grounding it conceptually as well as conducting field work, design explorations, and case study investigations.

The doctoral student will be supervised by: Associate Professor Ute Besenecker
