KTH, School of Architecture and Built Environment

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Civil & Architectural Engineering with specialization in Concrete Structures

The division of Concrete Structures at KTH Civil & Architectural Engineering is in search for a doctoral student to be assigned a project on repair of concrete pavements. The vast majority of Swedish highways are asphalt pavements but there are some concrete pavements. Concrete pavements have many advantages, such as high load-carrying capacity and wear resistance, fire resistance, brightness and low rolling resistance leading to fuel savings. They are long lasting but need finally repair. In the project, the possibilities to repair concrete pavements will be studied by field tests. Promising technologies can be found in North America, but they need to be further developed to work properly in Sweden. We are searching an engineer with MSc exam, a person interested in the built environment, structural engineering, highway engineering and concrete technology. The project is sponsored by the Swedish Transport Administration and the Swedish concrete industry and both parties will actively participate in a reference group connected to the project why the applicant’s ability to communicate with them is essential.

Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by: Professor Johan Silfwerbrand, KTH, and Dr. Larissa Strömberg, NCC and KTH.
