Third-cycle subject: Medical Technology
The doctoral education will be undertaken within the programme ”Medical Technology”, denoting that the doctoral student will be accepted to KTH as well as the Karolinska Institute (KI), enabling her/him to apply for a ”join degree” at the two universities. The Division of Environmental Physiology, KTH will constitute the students´ primary residence at KTH, and the Unit of Experimental Traumatology her/his secondary residence at KI. The doctoral project will concern effects of physical exercise and muscle perfusion on decompression stress in conjunction with diving. The project will be based on experiments in humans and will mainly be conducted in the hyperbaric chamber at the Div. of Environmental Physiology. Single experimental series may, however, be conducted at the Diving & Naval Medical Centre in Karlskrona.

Target degree: Doctoral degree
Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student. The total length of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education in four years ' time. An employed doctoral student can, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within their role, e.g. training and administration. A new position as a doctoral student is for a maximum of one year, and then the employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time.
