Third-cycle subject: Information and Communication Technology
The position assumes research in models, architectures, languages and tools oriented towards covering the complete lifecycle of managing Big Data pipelines through discovery, design, simulation, provisioning, deployment, and adaptation across the Computing Continuum (heterogenous infrastructures such as Cloud, Edge, Fog).
The diversity and complexity of data modelling and processing pipelines and the heterogeneity of the Computing Continuum platforms require efforts using both expert knowledge of the domain and technical knowledge of computational environment. However, the collaboration between domain and technical experts requires repeated communication cycles and a knowledge gap between them introduces significant overhead.
Work on the Doctoral Thesis will be aiming towards bridging the gap between domain and technical experts in using Cloud/Fog/Edge environments for Big Data pipelines definition and managing. It will be related to exploring and finding mechanisms that support both data scientist and domain experts in the complete lifecycle of managing data pipelines. Of particular interest will be developing a Domain Specific Language for Big Data pipelines description as well as methods and tools for reuse of design knowledge, pipeline descriptions and components of pipelines.
This position will be associated with the DataCloud project in the framework of the EU HORIZON2020 program.
