Subject description

The subject includes theories and methodological tools from business studies and sociology applied to construction and real estate companies, their stakeholders and specific properties also as part of technical systems. Studies of real estate business have an internal company focus on resource management and efficiency and an external focus on market understanding, such as how the market and companies are affected by sustainability considerations and digitalization. Research and teaching in the subject can focus both on different types of housing companies and on companies that own and manage commercial office and industrial properties. Property management, market analysis at real estate investments and development are examples of applied research within the subject.

Duties

In education, the employment mainly includes teaching at the basic and advanced level as well as supervision of doctoral students. In research, the associate professor is expected to conduct his or her own research and actively work to fund it. In addition, development of the department's other activities as well as taking responsibility for faculty assignments at the university are included. The associate professor is also expected to contribute to fulfilling KTH's goals in sustainable development. The associate professor is expected to be able to teach in Swedish within three years. If necessary, a language plan is drawn up to support employment.

Eligibility

Those qualified for appointment as an associate professor are persons who have:

  1. been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve , and
  2. demonstrated teaching expertise.

Grounds of assessment

The assessment criteria for appointment as an associate professor at KTH shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. In addition, the assessment criteria stated in the KTH appointment procedure, section 1.2., apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

Of highest importance is that the applicant has

  • scientific skills in the subject field, including ability to apply for and receive research funding in competition.
  • pedagogical skills within the subject.

Of second highest importance that the applicant has

  • ability to pursue third-stream activities and inform about research and development work.
  • skills to develop and lead activities and staff, with an awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.

It is also important that the applicant has

  • administrative skills.
