Project description
Third-cycle subject:Electrical Engineering
Two dimensional (2D) materials are emerging as potent building blocks for novel optical and mechanical devices on the micro-and nanoscale. They provide unique optical, electrical, and mechanical properties that can be exploited to create entirely new device types for such rapidly evolving applications as quantum computing and communication, LIDAR, and nano-electromechanical sensing (NEMS).
In this project, new optical and mechanical devices based on 2D materials for application in integrated quantum optics and NEMS will be developed. We work both with graphene and TMDs such as WSe2, and cover design and characterization, as well as the fabrication technology required for mass-manufacturing. The project engages several fellow PhD students at the department and is conducted in cooperation with high-profile industrial partners and research groups from inside and outside KTH.
Supervision: Kristinn B. Gylfason main supervisor, Frank Niklaus co-supervisor, Val Zwiller co-supervisor.
