KTH Royal Institute of Technology,

Job description

Materials Science and Engineering and Solid Mechanics at KTH have initiated a centre for mechanical properties (centre for Mechanics and Materials Design – MMD) together with a series of leading Swedish manufacturing companies. The department of Materials Science and Engineering now offers a postdoc position within the MMD centre. The work will be at the border between materials sciences and solid mechanics and will comprise elements from both research areas. The research will focus on crystal plasticity, micromechanical modelling of degradation of fatigue properties and initiation of fatigue damage in combination with in-situ micromechanical experiments. The work is planned for a series of different steel grades with increasing microstructural complexity. Similarly, the fatigue experiments will have a progression in increasing stress-state complexity from uniaxial to contacts.

What we offer

  • A position at a leading technical university that generates knowledge and skills for a sustainable future
  • Engaged and ambitious colleagues along with a creative, international and dynamic working environment
  • Works in Stockholm, in close proximity to nature
  • Help to relocate and be settled in Sweden and at KTH
  • A network of experienced researchers within crystal plasticity, fatigue, mechanical modelling, and characterization
  • Access to modern laboratories for material characterization and solid mechanics testing
  • Access to powerful computer cluster
  • Affiliation to the newly started MMD centre, which has the vision to become a leading centre for mechanical properties of design materials
  • Access to good industry contacts through MMD
