Third-cycle subject: Mediated Communication: Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)
New hybrid materials will lead to an ‘internet of senses’, a vision that suggests being able to engage with the digital through all of our senses. Our goal is to imagine and realize how this will feel. We will design for touch with these new materials from the perspective of soma design. And, work towards ‘intimate correspondence’ - a deep engagement between the body and the material. The student will participate in the SSF-funded project “Hardware for Energy Efficient bodyNETs”. The applicant will work with materials emerging from across the project, and through applying a soma design practice, design, develop and study several fully-fledged applications in real use situations.
The applicant will be based in the Interaction Design team. Their work will combine careful attention to the sensation, emotion arising through interactions with materials, as well as taking a critical, feminist perspective on how bodies are acknowledged in design.
