Subject description

The subject aims to precisely control the organization and dynamics of matter and information at the molecular level by adapting classical computation and information theory to chemical or biochemical contexts. Programmed self-assembly at the nanometer level is used to generate, e.g., self-assembled nanostructures, chemical reaction networks, and DNA archival storage.

Duties

The associate professor is expected to conduct research and develop research networks for collaboration with national and international researchers. The associate professor is expected to carry out teaching at undergraduate level, advanced level and postgraduate level, and is expected to develop the teaching to ensure that it follows developments in genetic technology, and is also expected to supervise doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows. The associate professor is also expected to contribute to the department’s development and contribute to fulfilling KTH’s goals in sustainable development. The associate professor is expected to be able to teach in Swedish within three years. If necessary, a language plan is drawn up to support employment.

Eligibility

Those qualified for appointment as an associate professor are persons who have:

  1. been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve, and
  2. demonstrated teaching expertise.

Grounds of assessment

The assessment criteria for appointment as an associate professor at KTH shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. In addition, the assessment criteria stated in the KTH appointments procedure, section 1.2., apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

Of highest importance is that the applicant has

  • Scientific skills in the subject area demonstrated through scientific publishing, conference participation, participation in research collaborations and other commitments in the scientific community such as review or expert assignments, as well as demonstrated ability to apply for and receive research funding.

Of second highest importance is that the applicant has

  • Pedagogical skills in the subject area demonstrated through teaching and supervision of students. This includes the ability to teach more broadly in biology, molecular biology or bioinformatics.
  • Collaborative skills

It is also important that the applicant has

  • Skill to develop and lead operations and personnel. This includes having knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a special focus on gender equality.
  • Ability to engage with the broader society and inform the public about research and developmental work.
  • Administrative skills.
