Subject description

The subject encompasses the construction of computer systems and its related software such as operating systems and compilers, and design of memory hierarchies and computer storage systems and also integration of sensors in computer systems.

Duties

The work consists mainly of research in the subject field and teaching at the first and second cycle levels. The associate professor is expected to build his/her own research group with strong international relations.

The position includes supervision of doctoral students and master thesis students as well as teaching in the first and second cycle levels, at the department of computer science including courses in computer engineering, operating systems and related subjects. In addition the work includes developing educational methods within the subject field at KTH.

The associate professor is expected to be able to teach in Swedish within three years. If needed a plan for language training will be set at the time of employment.

Eligibility

Those qualified for appointment as an associate professor are persons who have:

  1. been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve, and
  2. demonstrated teaching expertise. 

Grounds of assessment

The assessment criteria for appointment as an associate professor at KTH shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. In addition, the assessment criteria stated in the KTH appointments procedure, section 1.2., apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

Of highest importance is that the applicant has

  • research expertise in the subject field, shown among other things by published scholarly work in internationally recognized academic periodicals.
  • pedagogical expertise in the subject field, shown among other things by having conducted teaching of high quality and to a significant extent at the first or second cycle level. 

Of second highest importance that the applicant has

  • administrative expertise
  • interpersonal skills
  • knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.

It is also important that the applicant has

  • expertise to develop and lead activities and staff.
