Job description

We are looking for a postdoc who has expertise on the use of synchrotron radiation for materials science. You will work at our national center for synchrotron light in materials science (Center for X-rays in Swedish materials science – CeXS). You will, together with the center team, be responsible for stimulating and developing Swedish applications of synchrotron measurements in materials science and engineering. Furthermore, you will conduct research using synchrotron radiation for materials science in existing and new projects at KTH. Your time will be shared approximately 50/50 between research and work at CeXS. CeXS is the national academic host of the Swedish Materials Science beamline (SMS) at the synchrotron facility PETRA III, DESY, Hamburg, Germany. The investments and operations of this SMS beamline have been made by Sweden as part of a Swedish-German governmental agreement.

You will work closely together with the director, vice-director and manager of CeXS as well as collaborate with the research team at the SMS beamline in Hamburg, will take responsibility for activities e.g. courses and liaison with Swedish researchers within synchrotron radiation for materials science. Collaboration with the research team at the SMS in Hamburg is a very important part of the work and you will spend time in Hamburg to participate in CeXS activities at the beamline as well as to keep updated with the SMS developments and use as well as the other DESY beamlines. The research will be directed towards metallic materials studied by synchrotron radiation and complementary experimental methods and modelling. At present some of the relevant research projects are focused on phase transformations, deformation and additive manufacturing.

The position is a temporary position, which is located at Campus KTH in the city center of Stockholm (subway station Tekniska Högskolan).

Qualifications

Requirements

A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline (With some exceptions for special reasons such as periods of sick or parental leave, kindly indicate if such reason exists in your resume).

Good knowledge in X-ray diffraction and scattering.

Experience in research using synchrotron radiation for materials science.

Preferred qualifications

It is also advantageous if you have experience in metals research and from teaching. Experience from research collaborations with companies is also advantageous for the position. Knowledge of the Swedish language will be considered a plus.The following qualifications are important:

  • Good knowledge of oral and written communication in English
  • Good social skills
  • Strong drive, collaborative abilities and ability to independently lead sub-projects
  • Good administrative ability
  • Teaching abilities.
