Job description

The KTH division of Biophysics is located at Science for Life Laboratory, wher the team develops some of the world’s most used tools for modelling biological systems and leads the EU-funded center-of-excellence BioExcel. As part of this center, we seek a postdoctoral scholar with strong previous research merits interested in developing algorithms, programs and computational techniques focused on molecular dynamics, in particular the program GROMACS. The duties involve both advanced scientific programming, making programs more usable to solve concrete biological/chemical problems, and conducting internationally competitive research in the field. Particular themes include (a) membranes and membrane proteins, (b) combination with cryo-EM data, and (c) new approaches combining simulations with data-driven life science and machine learning.

The work is part of a larger team allowing both collaborative work and independent research, and involves conference and collaboration travel to both Europe and the US.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline (With some exceptions for special reasons such as periods of sick or parental leave, kindly indicate if such reason exists in your resume).
  • Experience from computational biochemistry or computational physics.
  • Experience in leading the preparation of scientific publications.
  • Experience from computational modeling of biological macromolecules.
  • Experience from programming, ideally C++ or Python.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.

Preferred qualifications

We expect that you are an active researcher who has led at least one scientific publication and prefer that you have already worked with molecular dynamics or similar techniques. It is commendable with prior experience from working with programming, parallelization, and development of scientific software. A strong track record of teaching is also a merit, as well as awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues with specific focus on gender equality. It is important that the candidate can work efficiently both as part of a larger team and independently. Great emphasis will be placed on personal competency.

About the employment

The position offered is for, at the most, two years.

A position as a postdoctoral fellow is a time-limited qualified appointment focusing mainly on research, intended as a first career step after a dissertation.
