Preclinical proteomics with a focus on monogenic diseases.

Subject description

The subject includes studies of the relationship between changes in a specific gene and the accompanying disease, including clinically relevant parameters that can improve care, lead to the development of specific diagnostic, predictive and prognostic tests, and new therapies, for related diseases. It aims to develop methodology, referring to both experimental and theoretical aspects, in order to be able to map molecular differences between healthy and sick patients through analysis of human genes and proteins, and to use the knowledge to develop biotechnological applications for clinical use.

Duties

The tasks include leading educational activities and pedagogical development, as well as implementing teaching of high international quality at the basic, advanced and research level in the field of preclinical proteomics. The position includes performing research at a high international level in the subject area, including to develop new sustainable methodologies that can lead to the development of clinical applications for diagnostics, to follow-up of disease progression and / or treatment effect in patients with monogenic diseases. The goal is to work with specific research questions and also to combine and integrate experimental data, derived from different technology platforms, with theoretical analysis methods and bioinformatics for mapping disease states. Through this work, the associate professor is expected to contribute to fulfilling KTH's goals in sustainable development. The associate professor is expected to be able to teach in Swedish within three years. If necessary, a language plan is drawn up to support employment.

Eligibility

Those qualified for appointment as an associate professor are persons who have:

  1. been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve, and
  2. demonstrated teaching expertise.

Grounds of assessment

The assessment criteria for appointment as an associate professor at KTH shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. In addition, the assessment criteria stated in the KTH appointments procedure, section 1.2. apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

Of highest importance is that the applicant has

  • teaching skills in the subject field, including experience of leading educational activities and pedagogical development.
  • research expertise in the subject field, demonstrated through scientific publication, conference participation, and participation in research collaborations.
  • the ability to pursue third-stream activities, for example collaboration with health care and the pharmaceutical industry.

Of second highest importance that the applicant has

  • expertise to develop and lead activities and staff. This includes knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.
  • experience of supervising postdocs, doctoral students, and students at basic and advanced level.
  • interpersonal skills.

It is also important that the applicant has

  • administrative expertise.
