Third-cycle subject: Biological physics
The field of fluorescence microscopy is undergoing a revolution in speed and spatial resolution allowing for more and more new discoveries within the life sciences. The research group of Ilaria Testa focuses on pushing the limits of high-resolution fluorescence microscopy by utilizing novel concepts in microscopy, biophysics and biotechnology. Our team is now designing new approaches for 3D imaging of brain cells. We are looking for a student interested in pursuing this challenge alongside our more experiences researchers. The project will involve experimental work such as building of optical and electronic systems (the microscope) and can also be expanded to theoretical work such as simulations and mathematical modelling of light shaping and fluorescence photo-switching according to the student interest.

Target degree: Doctoral degree
Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student. The total length of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education in four years ' time. An employed doctoral student can, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within their role, e.g. training and administration. A new position as a doctoral student is for a maximum of one year, and then the employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time.
