Third-cycle subject: Engineering Mechanics
To design cost-and resource-efficient yet safe processes, we need a better understanding of the flow of the materials that are processed, It is crucial to characterize yield-stress materials, also in the presence of additives. Within the EU project YIELDGAP, we are looking for 3 PhD students to study viscoplastic and elastoviscoplastic fluids. We plan experiments, numerical simulations and modelling of the fluid behavior from the basic interactions determining its microstructure. The project exploits highly accurate simulations and state-of-the-art experiments to study complex fluids behavior in complex geometries. We will also model the interparticle interactions and relate them to the macroscopic behavior. The candidates will contribute to develop new numerical and experimental tools and analyse theoretical models. The candidates will have a chance to collaborate with the groups involved in the EU project.
Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by: Dr. Tammisola, Prof Brandt and Prof Lundell.
To be admitted to postgraduate education (Chapter 7, 39 § Swedish Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility in accordance with either of the following:
