Job description

  • Conduct research on freight transport systems with Automatic Train Operation (ATO) and publish journal or conference papers
  • Collaborate and publish papers with other researchers and doctoral students
  • Apply for funding for new research projects at KTH in collaboration with other researchers
  • Supervise doctoral students *
  • Teach courses in train traffic, including supervised degree projects *

* The proportion is set individually, but supervision and teaching may in total not exceed 20% of full-time employment

At the division for Transport Planning, research and teaching is conducted in the planning of railway systems. The goal is to improve the railway's conditions and competitiveness in freight and passenger traffic in order to be able to contribute to sustainable development in society.

One of the research areas that is now being established is the effects and design of Automatic Train Operation (ATO). The research task for the postdoctoral position is to analyze which production systems will be possible and conceivable for freight traffic by rail with the introduction of ATO. The goal is to produce a basis for calculating the benefits and market effects for freight traffic by rail with ATO. Another goal is to contribute to strengthening the research area within the division through teaching, supervision of doctoral students and project applications for further research.

Qualifications

Requirements

A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline (With some exceptions for special reasons such as periods of sick or parental leave, kindly indicate if such reason exists in your resume).
The subject for the doctoral degree must be in traffic and transport, analysis methods in planning train traffic or equivalent.

In addition to the doctoral degree, we want you to have:

  • Experience of teaching or supervision at university level
  • Proficiency in scientific English.

Preferred qualifications

It's preferred if you have experience in:

  • Planning of railway traffic or transport logistics, and can show:
  • Teaching abilities,
  • Research expertise, and:
  • Master Swedish in speech and writing.

As a person you have strong collaborative abilities, a drive to work independently and have an awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality.

About the employment

The position offered is for one year with a possibility for extension one additional year.

A position as a postdoctoral fellow is a time-limited qualified appointment focusing mainly on research, intended as a first career step after a dissertation.
