At the division for Transport Planning, research and teaching is conducted in the planning of railway systems. The goal is to improve the railway's conditions and competitiveness in freight and passenger traffic in order to be able to contribute to sustainable development in society.
Trends in train travel are reflecting behavioral changes that in many cases go fast. One of the clear changes in recent years is the climate crisis, which has led to a change in valuations, with increased train travel and reduced air travel as a result. The corona pandemic from 2020 with restrictive travel recommendations and occasionally closed borders has led to a sharp reduction in travel, but where the lasting, long-term effects are still unclear. The goal of the postdoctoral position is to assess the lasting changes in demand and make an analysis of the effects on the railway network in Sweden with a forecast model. Another goal is to contribute to strengthening the research area within the department through teaching, supervision of doctoral students and project applications for further research.
