School of Architecture and Built Environment at KTH

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Transport science with focus on Transport systems

The doctoral studies will be conducted at the division of Transport Planning at the department of Civil and Architectural Engineering, at the School of Architecture and the Built Environment (ABE). The studies focus on simulation of rail freight concepts and the interaction with the utilization of the infrastructure. This involves simulation and evaluation of the impact of introducing faster freight trains and its influence on yards, terminals, and other infrastructure in the network, and how to further optimize their influence. The program also focuses on the application of emerging technologies and what implication they have on rail freight transport chains. In addition, the studies handles issues related to smaller yards and how to enhance the utilization rate of yard facilities especially when the yard is serving multiple operators. Part of these doctoral studies is to collaborate and contribute to ongoing freight and logistics related projects.

Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by: Ass. Prof. Oskar Fröidh, Dr. Behzad Kordnejad and Dr. Hans Sipilä
