Job description

The nonlinear quantum photonics group at the department of applied physics is offering a postdoctoral research position on experimental quantum optics to conduct fundamental investigations on the generation of entangled multi-photon states and their coherent manipulation in nonlinear photonic crystals. The position is supported by the Wallenberg Center in Quantum Technology (WACQT), a national initiative funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, and involves further opportunities for training and collaboration in this framework. The goal for the WACQT project (multipartite photon entanglement in two-dimensional nonlinear lattices) is to demonstrate novel monolithic quantum sources for photonic multipartite communications and efficiently couple flying qubits at telecom wavelengths transmitted over optical fibers to stationary qubits in the near-infrared range, to be interfaced with quantum dots and quantum memories.

The project will be conducted at the Quantum and Bio-Photonics Unit at the Department of Applied Physics, in a dynamic and creative group, working in an international and collaborative atmosphere. The research activities of the unit are mostly experimental and often interdisciplinary.

The work within the project offers several opportunities for both curiosity-driven basic research and more applied technological development in nonlinear and quantum optics.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline (With some exceptions for special reasons such as periods of sick or parental leave, kindly indicate if such reason exists in your resume).
  • You should possess a proven record of outstanding experimental skills and a strong background in quantum optics, combined with a track record of high-quality scientific publications. Familiarity with sources of entangled photons based on spontaneous parametric downconversion, as well as experience in the development of experimental setups and systems for their characterization are a requirement for this position. You should enjoy engineering challenges and experimental work, perform well in a team and be strongly motivated to pursue research of high standard. Good communication skills and command of written and spoken English are also a requirement.

Preferred qualifications

Experience in multi-qubit entanglement generation and experimental assessment of multiphoton entanglement are highly desirable. A proven record of successful international collaborations, teaching and supervision are also merits for the position. As a person you are ready to take on new challenges and work hard, have the capability to work independently, but are also a good team player, willing to support junior members. About the employment
