The department of Engineering mechanics pursues basic and applied research in biomechanics, composite mechanics, fluid mechanics, contact mechanics, fracture mechanics and fatigue, material mechanics and paper mechanics. In the applied research, there are strong connections to industry and public actors. This position is one of eight postdoc positions in the thematic areas developed at the department, namely,
- Biomechanics, Health and Biotechnology
- Advanced Material and Structures, Energy
- Transport and Future Mobility,
- Advanced Computing and Machine Learning.
As part of a cross-department initiative, the department of Engineering Mechanics announces a postdoc position within the thematic area Biomechanics, Health and Biotechnology on the topic of “Vascular exchange in organs and tissues”. This project will develop computational models of transport in soft tissues in the presence of vascular network. We will work with brain tissue, and our computational models will be developed towards supporting the design of high-precision organ-on-chip platforms and hydrogels. They should be able to control the transport inside artificial brain tissue and enable the efficient cell-culturing, cell proliferation and differentiation.
We are seeking an outstanding postdoctoral candidate to complement the department’s expertise in computational mechanics. The successful candidate will develop and validate computational models to predict fluid flow around and into hydrogels, and the subsequent solute diffusion inside hydrogels. The simulations should help to understand how concentration gradients inside hydrogel depend on hydrogel properties and external flow conditions. Simulation results will then be used by the clinical/medical arm of this project to optimize the vascularization conditions in the production of cerebral organoids.
The position as postdoc primarily refers to one year. Provided that the research is successful, the employment will be extended by a maximum of one year.
