School of Engineering Sciences at KTH

Job description

As part a cross-department initiative, the department of Engineering Mechanics announces a postdoc position within the thematic area “Advanced computing and machine learning” on the topic of multi-fidelity models for vascular problems. The postdoc will be working on developing advanced methods for multifidelity simulations within the application area of vascular biomechanics. This includes the theoretical development, implementation into open-source codes, and coupling to existing vascular simulation methods. The goal is to combine experimental observations and high-fidelity simulations with low-fidelity (low-order) models to make accurate predictions for the biomechanical quantities of interest. The multifidelity models can also be very useful for uncertainty quantification (UQ) and optimisation.

We thus want to combine novel UQ techniques for multi-fidelity models with state-of-the-art simulation techniques (reduced-order models, RANS, LES) of clinical realistic  hemodynamic problems. The proposed inclusion of the simultaneous prediction of uncertainty of the fused results is a completely novel approach in the field. The multidisciplinary nature of the project allows for publications with different scope ranging from fundamental method and software development, to clinical biomechanical applications. Given the importance of cardiovascular diseases, the potential outcomes are also of high socioeconomic relevance.

This position is one of eight postdoc positions in the thematic areas

Biomechanics, Health and Biotechnology

Advanced Material and Structures, Energy

Transport and Future Mobility, and

Advanced Computing and Machine Learning.
