The postdoc will be based at at SciLifeLab.

Job description

The research activity for the postdoc will mainly focus on the study of how cell localization influences tissue spatial gene expression. This work will involve computational analysis of cutting-edge techniques, such Spatial Transcriptomics and single-cell RNA-sequencing.

Within the framework of this project, we will collaborate with researchers around Europe and the USA. Moreover, we will collaborate with medical doctors at the Hvidovre Hospital in Denmark to have access to unique human samples, and interact with expert researchers at Novo Nordisk with the final goal to perform translational studies.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Bioinformatics analysis for omic projects and mainly responsible for data analysis and software compilations (next generations sequence alignment, expression anlysis, and visualization tools and browsers).
  • Data analysis, integration, and interpretation.
  • Identify, evaluate, and incorporate relevant algorithms and software pipelines by reviewing pertinent literatures.
  • Summarize data analyses results in a comphrehensive form.
  • Development, testing, and maintenance of modular software pipelines for sequencing analysis.
  • Interact with bench collaborators to guide and propose new experiments.
  • Participate and present research outputs in group meetings.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree (in a relevant subject), obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline (With some exceptions for special reasons such as periods of sick or parental leave, kindly indicate if such reason exists in your resume).
  • Background in genomics/transcriptomics data analysis.
  • Experience with image data analysis.
  • Good knowledge of the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Examples of scripts written by the applicant.
  • At least one first author publication in scientific journals or proven capability of writing of scientific articles.

Preferred qualifications

  • Knowledge of R, Python, and the Unix (Linux) environment, C/C++ is a plus
  • Experience with analysis of genomics/transcriptomics/single-cell transcriptomics/spatial transcriptomics data
  • Proficient in high performance computing, and analysis of high throughput data
  • Background and work knowledge in and machine learning or statistics
  • Experience in manipulating, analyzing, and annotating large genomic data sets.
  • Experience with image data analysis is a plus
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality.
