School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health (CBH) is one of the five schools of KTH and a strong constellation for research and education in the broader areas of health, environment, energy and materials. The School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health conducts research and education in areas that cover several global challenges. Among them are the need of sustainable energy, health and aging population, climate change, sustainable production and working life, food production and clean water.
Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab, https://www.scilifelab.se/) is a national center for large-scale life science research with an advanced technological infrastructure. At SciLifeLab, multidisciplinary research is carried out based on DNA sequencing, gene expression analysis, proteomics, bioinformatics, biostatistics and system biology. The goal is to enable Swedish researchers to analyze genes, transcripts and proteins in different organisms in order to map molecular mechanisms related to health and the environment. Examples of thematic research areas that are currently being processed within SciLifeLab are clinical genomics/proteomics, cancer genome and the genomics of complex diseases as well as ecological and environmental genomics.
Researchers within the Swedish-based research program Human Protein Atlas (HPA) have been systematically mapping the localization of human proteins in cells, tissues and organs during the past 20 years. The project is funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. The data generated within the project is published on the open access database and knowledge resource at proteinatlas.org, and has contributed to hundreds of publications by researchers within the project.
The Cell profiling group (PI Emma Lundberg) at SciLifeLab in Stockholm produces and maintains the Cell Atlas, where we study the spatiotemporal subcellular distribution of proteins using immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy. The group consists of three teams: research, production and facility, but the teams are interlinked and share a common infrastructure. We are now looking for an acting research engineer (temporary position) for the production team.
The production team is responsible for the production and maintenance of the Cell Atlas part of the HPA. As a research engineer in this team you will be localizing proteins at the subcellular level in cell lines by using immunofluorescence (ICC-IF) and confocal microscopy.
The tasks mainly include laboratory work, but also some analytical tasks. In the lab, you will mainly do cell cultivation, immunostaining and microscopy. The analytical tasks include qualitative image analysis and curation of data for the Cell Atlas. You will work according to established SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and document your work in LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System).
