We seek a PhD student for an interdisciplinary EU project to develop next generation fluorescence-based super-resolution microscopy for bacterial diagnostics. This development takes advanced single-molecule and super-resolution fluorescence spectroscopy and imaging techniques in our lab at KTH as a starting point, and aims to characterize bacterial surface proteins, how they interact with host cells, for the development of new vaccines and antibiotics. The project is highly interdisciplinary and performed in close collaboration with Karolinska Institutet and three world-leading photonic companies in Europe. The PhD studies will include build-up of instruments, fluorescence imaging/spectroscopy experiments, modelling and calculations/simulations.

Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student. The total length of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education in four years ' time. An employed doctoral student can, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within their role, e.g. training and administration. A new position as a doctoral student is for a maximum of one year, and then the employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time.
