Job description

The unit for Manufacturing & Metrology Systems (MMS) at the Department of Industrial Production (IIP) works with research, education and policy in the circular economy, with a special focus on the manufacturing industry. Research projects are usually related to highly interdisciplinary areas, such as product design, (business) operations, supply chains and information and communication technology in manufacturing settings. Collaborative projects usually involve academics, the public sector and industry partners. The department's staff and students come from all over the world and contribute to a very international environment.

This research position strives to strengthen research and development activities in order to promote CE research, education and international cooperation through a local KTH-CE initiative and EU projects. Therefore, we are looking for a candidate who has soundtracks with a CE system perspective. The candidate will primarily be involved in:

  • Develop research ideas and concepts and transform these into actionable research tasks
  • Development of consortia in order to create financing proposals
  • Implementation of own research tasks
  • Coordination of research proposals within KTH's CE initiative and beyond
  • Teach in CE topics and develop education materials
  • Work with CE training tasks within KTH's CE initiative
  • Publication in both scientific and popular science journals

Requirements

To qualify for this position at IIP, the candidate must have a completed doctoral degree or foreign degree that is deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree in technical science, economics or equivalent, which you have received in the past four years. The candidate must have a master's and bachelor's degree aimed at a mechanical, industrial or equivalent field.

     • Experience of developing and leading activities and staff.

Preferred qualifications

It is an advantage if the candidate has:

      • at least 3 years' experience of project management with expertise in design, implementation          and reporting.
      • at least 1 year of experience with education, e.g.  teaching, course development and                      supervising student essays etc.
      • experience of participating and leading large and medium-sized projects is highly valued for            this position. Having worked with EU and nationally funded (or equivalent) research projects            will be an advantage.
      • skills in complex system modeling and implement system models to simulate manufacturing            systems.
      • interest and basic knowledge of programming languages ​​such as Java, VisualBasic or similar             is required.
      • excellent communication skills in English.
      • the ability to identify relevant stakeholders and disseminate research results among relevant           sectors is crucial.
      • knowledge and worked with standardization such as ISO
      • experience of guiding doctoral students in their early stages.
      • experience of organising conferences, seminar and workshops etc.
      • the ability to generate short-term research ideas for student projects and / or hypothesis                testing that can lead to potential long-term research ideas is also beneficial for the position.

  • Ability to work Interdisciplinary  and internationally
  • Good knowledge of complex system analysis
