Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab, https://www.scilifelab.se/) is a national center for large-scale life science research with an advanced technological infrastructure. At SciLifeLab, multidisciplinary research is carried out based on DNA sequencing, gene expression analysis, proteomics, bioinformatics, biostatistics and system biology. The goal is to enable Swedish researchers to analyze genes, transcripts and proteins in different organisms in order to map molecular mechanisms related to health and the environment. Examples of thematic research areas that are currently being processed within SciLifeLab are clinical genomics/proteomics, cancer genome and the genomics of complex diseases as well as ecological and environmental genomics.
The project will focus on profiling the human proteome in body fluids by utilzing advanced affinity proteomics methods, and on the investigation of emerging biomarkers in relation to states of different diseseas. The doctoral student will work with human blood samples, develop analytical methods and highly multiplexed antibody-based assays, implement bioinformatics methods and perform data analysis. The positions will be focused on aspects of the protein biomarker analysis pipeline, including the experimental study design, assay development, planning and executing the precison measurements for disovery and validation, and analyzing the data within the disease context.
Third-cycle subject: Biotechnology
Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by Prof. Jochen Schwenk and co-supervision of Dr. Claudia Fredolini, in close collaboration with the Human Protein Atlas project (www.proteinatlas.org) and the Affinity Proteomics unit consisting of research engineers, postdocs and researchers.
