Architecture with a focus on Sustainable Urban Design

Subject description

The subject encompasses knowledge concerning building constructiron and design of the physical environment, i particular buildings, landscape, cities and the interplay between them, as well as knowledge concerning the historical significance of the subject for societal development in different geographical and cultural contexts. It includes a specialisation in sustainable urban design concerning the concepts and theories of the subject area, as well as analysis and design of urban design projects with a sustainability perspective on general as well as specific levels.

Duties

The employment inclves mainly teaching in design project courses in the architectural education, basic and advanced levels. The current position concerns mainly design project teaching on advanced levels in sustainable urban design and landscape urbanism. Work duties include planning and development of courses, teaching, course administration, pedagogic development as well as contacts within KTH and the surrounding society. In relation to the current pandemic situation and its effects on university teaching formats teaching may be conducted partially on-line and by remote teaching. The employment is 40% of full time. Teaching will primarily be conducted in English.

Eligibility

Those qualified for appointment as a lecturer are persons who have:

  1. been awarded a degree from first-cycle academic education within the subject of the employment or has corresponding competence,
  2. professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties it will involve, and
  3. demonstrated teaching expertise.

Grounds of assessment

The assessment criteria for appointment as lecturer at KTH are stated in KTH's appointment procedure, section 1.5, and apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

Of highest importance is that the applicant has

  • understanding of the field of architecture with a specialization in sustainable urban design.
  • documented professional expertise relevant to the content of the employment
  • participated in contexts of significance for the development of the discipline and the profession, such as exhibitions, publications, competitions and symposia.

Of second highest importance that the applicant has

  • documented pedagogic competence in the subject field including digital skills and experience from design studio teaching in architecture or planning educations. The assessment of teaching expertise shall also relate to the person’s long-term ability to develop as a teacher
  • professional experience outside the university.
  • the ability to collaborate with others. This includes knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.

It is also important that the applicant has

  • skills and experience from research and development works in the subject field shown through, for example, participation in research and development projects, publications, exhibitions or completed postgraduate studies.
  • courses in teaching and learning in higher education.
  • documented artistic expertise relevant to the content of the employment
  • the ability to pursue third-stream activities.
  • the ability to develop and lead activities and interpersonal skills.
  • administrative expertise
