School of Architecture and Built Environment at KTH

Project description

The department of Civil and Architectural Engineering is looking for a PhD student in smart digital processes that will support the re-use of building components and facilitate the circular and resource effective architectural engineering of the future. The work will mainly be carried out within the EU Horizon 2020 project Recreate that aims to develop new knowledge and business models for the re-use of concrete elements in new buildings. The project is inter-disciplinary and as a PhD student you will cooperate with researchers from different departments at KTH and three other universities in Europe. The research is also carried out in cooperation with actors from the Swedish building industry.

We will investigate how digital tags on building components and digital building information models can be used to identify, trace and gather information about the properties and condition of building elements. We will also develop protocols for the feeding of information into digital building information models throughout the supply chain from audit to testing and re-use. Cost-efficient and environmentally friendly techniques for cleaning and stripping will also be investigated.

Third-cycle subject: Civil and architectural engineering

Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by: Associate Professor Kjartan Gudmundsson and Professor Folke Björk
