Job description

You will work on a FetOpen project NOPEST (http://www.h2020nopest.org/) that explores new solutions to counteract oomycete infections in commercial crops. The project aims to develop an environmentally friendly approach for crop protection as an alternative to conventional chemical pesticides.

The tasks associated with the position include independently developing and analyzing research at a high qualitative level and communicating the research results to the research group and a wider audience. More specifically, some of the research tasks include gene cloning, production and purification of recombinant proteins, assays of enzyme activity and stability, cell wall characterization, and mass spectrometry. The project also involves collaboration with different research partner both in Sweden and abroad. The candidate will also be expected to participate in the collaborative writing of those high-impact papers that will summarize the results achieved.

You will be encouraged to assist in the training and supervision of Master’s thesis students and research interns. No more than 20% of the postdoc’s time may be devoted to educational duties. Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline(With some exceptions for special reasons such as periods of sick or parental leave, kindly indicate if such reason exists in your resume). Your doctorate should have been obtained within a relevant field of study, such as cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, enzymology or biotechnology.

Preferred qualifications

  • The applicant should have a solid knowledge in biochemistry, enzyme technology and bioanalytical chemistry.
  • Experience of handling, maintaining and working with various pathogenic oomycetes.
  • Experience with GC-MS, LC-MS and cell wall polysaccharide analysis.

About the employment

The position offered is for, one year, with the possibility of extension for one more year, at the most two years.

A position as a postdoctoral fellow is a time-limited qualified appointment focusing mainly on research, intended as a first career step after a dissertation.
