School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH

Job description

The School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health conducts research and education in areas that cover several global challenges. Among them are the need of sustainable energy, health and aging population, climate change, sustainable production and working life, food production and clean water. The School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health consists of nine departments, and over 850 co-workers. It is represented in four strategically important locations in the Stockholm area – centrally at Campus Valhallavägen, at Alba Nova University Center close to physics departments at both Stockholm University and KTH, in the medical technology hub Campus Flemingsberg, and at the national research center SciLifeLab and the Karolinska Institute in Solna. The school offers a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Chemistry, Degree Programs in Engineering Chemistry among others, Technical Preparatory Year and nine international master programs.

Electrochemical sensors have already demonstrated giant success in certain applications such as amperometric glucose sensors, clinical ion-analyzers, glass pH electrode and kits for multi-ion detection in agriculture. Moreover, voltammetric sensors based on nano-membranes have been recently introduced as a promising tool to develop new marketable sensors for multi-ion detection. The present project aims to go one step further and introduce the possibility to select where, when and how the multi-ion sensing will be performed as a result of using light-driven smart surfaces.
