The Physics of Medical Imaging division at the Department of Physics, KTH, is one of the leading research groups in the world within the field of photon-counting spectral x-ray computed tomography, an emerging technology which will be the next major advance in medical x-ray imaging. As a research engineer, you will be doing research into deep-learning-based image reconstruction methods, as part of an interdisciplinary team working with both hardware and software development. The main tasks are training and optimizing deep convolutional neural network for image reconstruction and evaluating their performance on experimental data from a prototype photon-counting CT scanner. Other tasks include analyzing the published research literature and contributing to writing research articles. This research project is right at the cutting edge of medical x-ray imaging research, and our close collaboration with industry with its access to raw data provides a unique opportunity for developing the next generation of image reconstruction methods.

Requirements
You have a BSc or MSc degree in Physics or Mathematics or equivalent competence. You have a strong background in mathematics and an interest in deepening your mathematics knowledge.
You are computer literate and have experience with numerical programming (e.g. Matlab or NumPy). You can express yourself well in written and spoken English, since this is required in the daily work activities.
We also expect that you have an interest in research and are able to pursue a research project with a high degree of independence. As a person you have strong collaborative abilities, working actively towards the success the team.
Preferred qualifications
It is a strong merit if you have experience in deep learning. It is also commendable if you have an awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal competence and suitability.
