School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH

School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health (CBH) is one of the five schools of KTH and a strong constellation for research and education in the broader areas of health, environment, energy and materials. The School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health conducts research and education in areas that cover several global challenges. Among them are the need of sustainable energy, health and aging population, climate change, sustainable production and working life, food production and clean water.

Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab, https://www.scilifelab.se/) is a national center for large-scale life science research with an advanced technological infrastructure. At SciLifeLab, multidisciplinary research is carried out based on DNA sequencing, gene expression analysis, proteomics, bioinformatics, biostatistics and system biology. The goal is to enable Swedish researchers to analyze genes, transcripts and proteins in different organisms in order to map molecular mechanisms related to health and the environment. Examples of thematic research areas that are currently being processed within SciLifeLab are clinical genomics/proteomics, cancer genome and the genomics of complex diseases as well as ecological and environmental genomics.

Job description

The research groups of Paul Hudson (KTH) and Alexey Amunts (Stockholm University) are seeking an outstanding candidate for a researcher position. The position is part of the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research project in biotechnology at Science for Life Laboratory. The position focuses on cryo-EM application and development for structure determination of bioenergetic complexes in photosynthetic microorgansims.

This position will involve the following duties:

  • Planning and execution of research experiments
  • Analysis of experimental data and reporting of research results
  • Writing scientific publications
  • Communicating with group members and collaborators
  • Assisting with supervision of students

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in molecular biology or a similar subject.
  • Background or experience in molecular visualization

Preferred qualifications

  • Skill in experimental science.
  • Experience in operating and troubleshooting complex instruments.
  • Good skill in communicating written and spoken English.
  • Problem solving skills.

Personal qualifcations

To enjoy and be succesfull in this role you have demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. You are also self-motivated, taking initiative and are goal-oriented. Since you have many contact in you daily work, you have a good ability in team working.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal competency.
